Wash near Oasis Road

Camp Verde, AZ

May 31, 2010

On Memorial Day morning we left from Phil’s house in Goodyear, and headed up I-17. We got off at General Crook Trail, Exit 285. We followed General Crook Trail east for 1.8 miles. We then came to a stop sign, where we turned right (south) on Oasis Rd. We followed Oasis Rd. 0.45 miles to a dirt road on the right, just before the intersection with Salt
Mine Road. This road runs west, parallel to a canyon on the left. After 1.5 miles we came to a place where the canyon wasn’t very deep or steep. We parked and climbed down into the canyon, then walked north a few hundred feet. GPS coordinates where we parked are 34 degrees 32.579’ N, -111 degrees 53.547’ W.

Almost immediately we started to pick up loose pseudomorphs of calcite after glauberite. These are dull white. There were also some aragonite pseudomorphs after glauberite. These were translucent light amber.

After we got the specimens home we discovered that the calcite pseudomorphs are filled with aragonite crystals!

This is the area of the streambed where the pseudomorphs are found.
